Jonathan is a highly experienced orthopaedic surgeon based in Melbourne, with extensive local and international training at world-renowned orthopaedic centres. He specialises in knee and hip surgery, providing personalised care tailored to each patient’s individual needs. Jonathan has particular expertise in treating patients with ACL, PCL, Multi-ligament and meniscus injuries, patella instability and knee and hip arthritis. He incorporates the latest advancements in technology, including robotic-assisted joint replacement and computer-generated 3D surgical planning for complex knee procedures. By combining precision technology with an individualised approach, Jonathan aims to optimise surgical techniques and achieve the best possible outcomes for his patients. With extensive expertise in Mako robotic joint replacement, Jonathan also trains surgeons as they embark on mastering this technology.
Advanced Training and International Experience
After obtaining his Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2011, Jonathan completed advanced postgraduate subspecialty training in the United Kingdom and France. He trained at two highly regarded centres — the Avon Orthopaedic Centre in Bristol, UK, and L’Hôpital de la Croix-Rousse – HCL in Lyon, France — where he was mentored in complex knee surgery by world-renowned surgeons Jonathan Eldridge, Andrew Porteous, and Professor Philippe Neyret. During these overseas fellowships, Jonathan refined his surgical expertise, learned innovative techniques, and established lasting professional relationships with leading international knee and hip surgeons. His research on knee joint replacement, ligament injuries, and patellar instability has been published and presented at respected international conferences.
Hospital Appointments and Consulting Locations
Jonathan has been part of the Box Hill medical precinct for more than 15 years. His main consulting rooms are located at the newly renovated Epworth Eastern Hospital. In addition, he consults and operates at several other leading institutions, including Epworth Richmond, Adeney Private, and Cabrini Malvern. He also holds a public hospital appointment as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Box Hill Hospital, where he supervises orthopaedic trainees, teaches medical students, and remains actively involved in ongoing orthopaedic research.
Passion for Sports and Patient Care
Outside of his surgical practice, Jonathan has a genuine passion for all sports and enjoys working closely with athletes of all levels to help them return to peak performance. A dedicated sports enthusiast himself, he is an avid Collingwood Magpies supporter.
